We are thrilled to announce that Martin Burns has been named as North America’s Entrepreneur of the Year – Biometrics Industry by the European CEO Magazine.
Martin has commented that he believes that BBI’s success is very much down to building successful partnerships;
“As CEO of BBI, I oversee a company dedicated to modernizing health care with biometric sensor technology for early detection and monitoring of chronic, preventable conditions in collaboration with clinicians. Data from our devices is proving transformative.
BBI’s lead product, the SEM Scanner, a wireless, is a hand-held device to detect signs of pressure damage under the skin that may progress to pressure ulcers. The SEM Scanner is designed to be an adjunct to clinical assessments and can alert clinicians to incipient pressure damage that is not visible at the skin surface and facilitate early intervention to reverse the damage before the sores break through the skin.
Rather than “tell” clinicians what the solution is, I’ve taken the approach of partnering with clinicians at each step of the development process; they are the clinical experts, after all. Nurses co-developed SEM Scanner with BBI and have nurtured its continuing development. Nurses tested the device, told me what we needed to do to overcome resistance to change in the healthcare establishment, and then tested the device further in real-world settings. The partnership with nurses has been pivotal in establishing the fact that pressure ulcer prevention is made real with SEM Scanner.”
Martin is delighted and honoured to be voted North America’s Entrepreneur of The Year. My thanks go to the European CEO publication.
As a company, we’ve won some great awards this year, including ’Most Innovative Product’ from the Journal of Wound Care and ‘Best Innovation in Medical Technology’ from the Health Service Journal. However, on behalf of the BBI team, it’s great to see Martin get recognition for his role in leading and inspiring our team’s journey towards delivering a world without pressure ulcers.
